The Brompton Cemetary was originally opened in 1840 and was consecrated by the Bishop of London, making it one of Britain’s oldest and most distinguished garden cemeteries. In the middle of the garden, there is a small domed chapel modeled after St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
It is believed that the author, Beatrix Potter, who lived just down the road on the Boltons, named many of her characters after names of people buried in the cemetery – such as the grumpy Mr. McGregor who continually chased Peter Rabbit out of his vegetable garden.
Managed by the Royal Parks, the Brompton Cemetery is a beautiful place to have a morning stroll with your pup. With a designated dog path, you are sure to make friends with other dog owners in the area and perhaps your dog will make a friend too!
