The Portobello Hotel is situated in Notting Hill, a dynamic district adjacent to Kensington, close to Kensington Gardens. Near to the hotel is the historic Portobello Road Market, and the building overlooks private communal gardens.

Following its opening in the 1970s the Portobello Hotel became a firm favourite of the rich and famous. Johnny Depp and Kate Moss bathed in Champagne whilst staying here, Van Morrison is said to have written an album here and Robbie Williams reportedly requested to purchase his bed following his stay. Whilst the hotel still attracts notable guests, residents are now much more varied since the Portobello changed ownership. It’s latest owners have updated the hotel’s interiors with new carpets and fresh paint, but have retained most of the hotel’s original features.

Accommodation

There are 21 rooms in the Portobello Hotel, all of which are uniquely styled with an eclectic mix of antique furniture and original artwork. Some rooms are dominated by wall-to -all frescos, others have dramatic four-poster beds and roll top baths. Each room benefits from complimentary Wi-Fi, a flat screen television, a mini-bar, a Nespresso Coffee machine and air conditioning.

Rooms are categorised as Single, Good, Better, Great and Exceptional. Good rooms have King or Twin size beds and Great rooms are large with a seating area. Exceptional rooms have hosted many nights to notable guests, including Room 16, which is where Alice Cooper famously kept his pet snake in the elaborate steam-punk inspired bath.

Restaurants and Bars

The hotel does not have a bar or restaurant. A continental breakfast is included with the rate of the room and can be enjoyed either in room or in the hotel’s small dining room. A cooked breakfast can be provided for an additional charge. There is also a 24-hour room service menu that serves a selection of light bites and snacks, such as hummus and Panini, as well as hot drinks, wines, beers and soft drinks.
